Spring weather is always wet around Cincinnati. With the temperatures starting to get warmer, the precipitation makes sure that the trails are unrideable after the winter thaw. This is the time of year for riding on the road for me. This year, I am going to mix it up a bit by utilizing the vintage Rollfast.
Is this bike ideal? Absolutely not. The single speed gearing is 44x20, which is perfect for leisurely cruising, not climbing around Indian Hill. The front wheel rubs the knobby Kenda tire in the front ever so slightly, giving a unique soundtrack to the ride. The coaster brake works, kinda. Descents on this one is interesting to say the least. But is it fun? You bet. Hauling this piece of metal around will be good in the long run. Hence why I am calling this spring training.
Get out and spin something different this season. Ride your knobbies on the road. Take your road bike off road. Ride your cruiser bike like you would your road racer. Just get out and pedal.
